Anonymity is central to what Relatable is. Here's exactly how we handle your information.

We don't collect your name, photo, or any identifying information when you write or \read stories. We don't sell your data. Chat conversations are ephemeral — when they end, they're gone. The only personal information we ever ask for is an email address if you join our community updates list, and you can opt out anytime.
Community email address. If you sign up for community updates, we store your email to send you news and announcements. That's the only thing we use it for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Story content. When you submit a story, we store the text, the category you chose, and a timestamp. Your story is linked to your anonymous username — not to your email or any identifying information.
Anonymous username. When you create an account, you're assigned a randomly generated username. You don't choose it. It has no connection to your real identity.
Basic usage data. We collect anonymized, aggregated data about how the platform is used — page views, story interactions, category popularity. This data cannot be tied to individual users.

Your photo or any biometric data
Your location
Your device identifiers or IP address (beyond what's standard in server logs, which are regularly purged)
Browsing history outside of Relatable
When two users connect through Relatable's chat feature, the conversation is private and ephemeral. We do not store chat content after a conversation ends. Neither participant can retrieve a past conversation once it's closed.
We do keep a record that a connection occurred (so we can detect abuse patterns), but not the content of what was said.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. Period.
We use a small number of third-party services to operate the platform — hosting, database infrastructure, and communications. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of our users — for example, if we receive a valid legal request, or in cases of credible threats of harm.
Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated stories at any time from your settings. Deletion is permanent.
Remove a story. You can delete any individual story you've written at any time.
Opt out of community emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. One click and you're off.
Request your data. You can request a copy of the data we hold on you by emailing us. We'll respond within 30 days.
